FAQ

Do I need to see a psychologist or therapist?

We all need a little help…. In times of hardship we can get overwhelmed with emotions and reactivity and often we need someone to offer us a different perspective, share their experience or help teach us tools we are unfamiliar with. You can come and see us for various problems (see an example list in our main page). But if you are unsure – call or email us, we would be happy to advise and assist you with the way forward.

What are your fees?

  • Session fee is £85 per 50 minutes.
  • Our first assessment session may be longer and take up to 90 minutes , however the fee for an initial session would remain £85.
  • Couples session is usually 90 mins long.
  • I also employ a sliding scale and offer concession depending on employment status and other factors

What is the difference between a Psychiatrist/ Psychologist/ Counselor?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor with a particular speciality in mental health and psychiatry. He or she is able to prescribe medications and help with other physical health problems. A psychiatrist can also help with more severe and enduring mental health problems.

A psychologist/ counselor is a mental health specialist who can help with a variety of difficulties and presentations and usually practice within a particular psychological paradigm and / or various paradigms (Existential, Psychodynamic, person centred, CBT etc.).

The most suitable method/ psychological paradigm for you would be determined after our assessment and consultation.

Do I have to make a commitment to therapy? How often do I need to come? And how many sessions will it take to make me better?

Yes, commitment to therapy is essential and important, however, we can agree together on the number of sessions you might require or wish to have – this could vary from a couple of consultation sessions, a short course of CBT work (6-18 sessions), a ‘one off’ Minfulness course/ workshop or a longer term explorative therapy.
Sessions are usually weekly and last approximately 50 mins each.

What if I cant come to my session? What is your cancellation/ change policy?

I require a 72 hours cancellation notice and I will endeavor to be as flexible as possible with required changes.

Is everything I talk about confidential?

Everything we talk about is confidential!  Session notes are private and confidential and are kept in a locked room. Confidentiality would only be broken in the case of a suspected harm to yourself and others – this will be discussed thoroughly and agreed upon at our initial consultation.

So… What is my next step? How do I start?

A: All you have to do is call or email me and I would be happy to speak on the phone or meet for a free initial consultation.
